It’s that time of year again, chestnuts roasting, Jack Frost nipping. The Holiday season is upon us with many social gatherings to go to, merriment to be had, mall shopping lots filled to bursting and everyone scrambling to get that latest toy fad!

As I was driving home the other night, the festive music was playing all over the radio. It really does stir up the Holiday spirit. I started to think about all the joy around me – my family, the time we spend together, and the traditions we share. I smirked when I thought of the smiles, squeals and shear excitement my children experience (and share) leading up to the holidays. The warm feelings and laughter are infectious, as we adults sit watching them on the big day. Suddenly the kids scream and jump up, “YES…thanks Mom, thanks Dad it’s EXACTLY what I wished for” when that special present gets torn open.

The music played on and the voice of John Lennon drifted into my car.

“So this is Christmas,
and what have you done?
Another year over,
and a new one just begun”

[Lyrics from: So This Is Christmas – John Lennon]

My thoughts then went to all the children who struggled and who may not have been as fortunate as my own this year.

When I arrived back home, I decided that we – myself, my family, and my office, must all contribute something. That we all have something to offer or give in this time of comfort and joy. There are over 95,000 Hamiltonians living in poverty. Of those over 25% are children under the age of 18. That means 1 out of every 4 children in Hamilton are living in a household who is considered impoverished. I find this overwhelming.

Winston Churchill once said “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”

To this end, Wynperle Law has partnered with 102.9 K-Lite FM, 1150 CKOC and 820 CHAM to host the Christmas Miracle. An annual drive for toys and food to be distributed through various local agencies with help from the East Hamilton Optimist Club. Make your donation of a new unwrapped toy and/or non-perishable food item at our office Suite 400, 25 Main Street West, and help us bring the greatest gift of all to local kids and families in need.

Please help us bring the joy of the Holidays to all this Christmas. Remember if we all do a little bit of good, those bits together can overewhelm the world! We can all be leaders and champions for change.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
